Love Lock

Sydney Dance Company

Inspired by the complexity of love stories, Melanie Lane’s bold new work Love Lock deconstructs love songs to create a folk dance that celebrates the fantasies and realities of love.

With striking costumes by the iconic designer Akira Isogawa, lighting design by Damien Cooper and a score by UK electronic artist Clark.

***** ‘Sometimes a concert dance comes along that stuns, inspires and provokes. Love Lock, by Australian-Indonesian choreographer and performer Melanie Lane, is a good example…it feels like a glimpse into the future. You just can’t look away. ‘ Arts Hub, Peter Hackney

***** ‘Choreographed by Melanie Lane, one of the most interesting dance voices in Australia, Love Lock is a deranged and glorious mantra of love. It’s a wacky, insouciant, laugh out loud, bizarre and elaborate courtship ritual that hits deep in the gut. Love Lock is a work of bold genius and unfiltered creativity. Cross oceans if you must. This is the real deal.’ Bachtrack, Katie Lawrence

**** ‘Each element of Love Lock is expertly crafted and together creates an unparalleled synergy. Every aspect – choreography, score, costuming and set – synthesises into a spectacular explosion of colour, richness and immersion that leaves the audience craving more.’ Jaynie Ng, State of the Arts

***** ‘Lane has the uncanny ability to stretch your space-time perceptions and make live dance feel like a gorgeously filmed, addictive music video. It’s ingenious – don’t miss it.’ Sydney Morning Herald, Chantal Nguyen.
